GCSO seeks evading driver

MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a Moses Lake man who led deputies on a chase Monday evening.
Michael Dean Sheppard, 32, is wanted on suspicion of felony eluding, according to a statement from the GCSO.
At about 6:45 p.m., a deputy spotted a 1976 Ford pickup driving 62 miles per hour in the 50 mph zone on State Route 17, the statement said. The driver, later identified as Sheppard, accelerated and led deputies on a pursuit on Patton Boulevard, then along several county roads. Along the way, Sheppard drove erratically, traveled in opposite lanes of traffic and ignored stop signs.
Moses Lake Police landed spike strips in the pickup’s path near Roads 7 and K.7 Northeast, the statement said. That flattened the pickup’s tires, causing Sheppard to abandon the pickup in a nearby cornfield and escape on foot.
No other vehicles were affected or damaged, and nobody was hurt, the statement said, and there is nothing to suggest Sheppard poses any threat to the public. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 509-762-1160.
