Rebecca Garza Valdez
Rebecca Garza Valdez a Moses Lake resident entered heaven peacefully at the age of 84 years old surrounded by her loved ones Nov. 18, 2023.
She was born June 11, 1939, in San Benito, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Rev. Canuto and Maria Garza. She was the fourth child of eight children.
At the age of 14, Rebecca came to the United States with her parents in search of a more fulfilling life. She worked at Sun Spiced Inc. for approximately 30 years. Her parents were ministers for the Asamblea de Dios. Rebecca married Alfredo Gonzalez Valdez on July 17, 1961, in Burlington, Wash. They established their home in Moses Lake, Wash., that same year. They had six beautiful children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Alfredo, went to be with the Lord in April of 1983.
Rebecca loved and believed in the Lord with her whole heart. She was a pillar of her church El Sendero de la Cruz now known as Restore City in Moses Lake. She was very active in women’s ministry and continued as a steady member of the Classicos group until her last days. She had unwavering faith and taught her family to trust in the Lord. This was her legacy. Her favorite Psalm was 23.
She is survived by her children, Lucinda (Charles), Maria, Alfredo III (Sonya), David (Heather), her brothers, Samuel Garza Sr. (Rebecca), Ruben Garza Sr. (Olga), Nache Garza (Abdon) and Raquel Gomez (Andres). She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Canuto and Maria Garza, her child, Baby Valdez, her sisters, Sara Garza and Lidia Garza, and brother David Garza.
A joint service for Rebecca Garza Valdez and Esther Valdez will be held Dec. 29, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Restore City Church for both Rebecca and Esther Valdez. After the service family and friends will gather at Restore City to share a meal and memories.
