Wildcats earn numerous all-conference awards
ELLENSBURG — Fourteen Wildcats earned all-conference awards from the Lone Star Conference, the league announced Thursday.
Leading the way for Central Washington were safety Tanner Volk, who was named the LSC’s Defensive Player of the Year award, and running back Tyler Flanagan, who received the Offensive Back of the Year title.
Volk led all levels of NCAA football with 11 interceptions according to the release, recorded 100 tackles and led the LSC in passes defended with 15. The junior had four games this season with two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown Sept. 16 against Angelo State.
Flanagan led the LSC in rushing yards (1013), rushing touchdowns (12) and all-purpose yards (1,273) this fall, giving him the Offensive Back of the Year award. The Woodland native also received a first-team all-LSC nod.
Guard Kingston Grey, along with Flanagan, received first-team offense awards. Volk and cornerback Patrick Rogers were named to the LSC’s first-team defense.
On the second team, center Slade Edwards, wide receiver Darius Morrison and fullback Kaiden Hammond were named to the offensive team, while punter Dan Stewart was named to the defensive team.
Kicker Josh Jones, defensive tackle Josiah Cochran, defensive end Isaac Clark, inside linebacker Brett Accimus, outside linebacker Dominic Wieburg and cornerback Jaylen Clay all received honorable mentions.
