The fuzzy faces of GCAO
Hi! My name is Sampson, what’s yours? I’m a four-year-old shepherd mix. I had a rough start to life – I have scars from having a wire wrapped around my muzzle. But I’m pretty smart if you ask me – just look at my fancy clothes – and they say I’m loving. I do love to cuddle, even though I’m big, and get all the scratches I can get. I am good on a leash and love going for walks – so many interesting smells. I love to run and play out in the sunshine. I like dogs my size or bigger, but to be honest I’m not a fan of small animals.

Mack is what they call me. I’m a large, male terrier and pit bull mix. I’ve had it pretty rough in the four years I’ve been around. I was at GCAO, then I got adopted. I was out for nine months before an officer brought me back. I have some new scars and hearing loss – no, I don’t want to talk about it. They say I’ve come pretty far though. New people still make me nervous, but once I get to know you I am playful and talkative, and I love attention and taking walks. I’m good with some dogs, but keep those cats and weird livestock animals away from me. I have been neutered.

Hola, my name is Chancho! I think it's a manly name, personally, and I’m pretty big. I’m a six-year-old neutered pitbull mix. I am good with some people, but I get a little nervous around new people. I can’t be in a home with other animals or young kids, but I am extremely smart – I know how to sit, stay and shake, which seems pretty smart to me – and I listen well. I love to play, and I am very motivated to learn, especially if you have treats. Did I mention I love to play?

I’m Valkyrie, though when I was here at the GCAO before they called me Chucha. I was adopted for about a year, but they brought me back. I’m almost seven years old, and a spayed female Siberian husky mix. I'm very sweet, independent and food-motivated, but at times I can be stubborn. I love to nap and I like lunging around until someone brings out the peanut butter (I LOVE peanut butter). I need to work on not pulling while on a leash, and I can’t be in a home with any other animals.

Hi, my name is Bear. I am an almost nine-year-old male neutered German shepherd, who is pretty big. I came into the shelter with my mom Teddy, who I don’t like to be apart from. I have lots of love to give to all the people I meet, and I am very talkative and I love being outside, and I really, really like food, and I love learning new tricks. I am good with most dogs, people and kids, they’re all fun to be around. Not cats. Cats freak me out. No cats please.

Hello there. I’m Teddy. Nice to meet you. I am an 11-year-old – going on 12 – spayed, medium-sized German shepherd mix. I came into the shelter with my son Bear, who I am bonded to. I love being outside doing my own thing as long as Bear is in my sight. I get very anxious if I can’t see him. I also love being brushed and being pet. I am good with most dogs, people and kids but I am very scared of cats. We don’t like cats in this family.

What’s up dog, my name’s Rusty. Don’t take that to mean I’m inexperienced though. I’m almost four years old and I’ve been around the GCAO since February of 2022, and before that I was on the streets. I know all the ins and outs, ok? I’m a medium-sized male, but even the big guys treat me with respect. I’ve been neutered, and these guys don’t know if I’m house-trained or not, but why don’t you come over and we can hang out?

I was hit by a car. True story. Oh, sorry, right, my name is Sammi. I’m four years old going on five, and I am a male, medium-sized neutered terrier mix. When I first came in after the accident, I didn't trust men and didn’t know how to get along with other dogs; after spending time at the shelter I have learned how to love people. I’m even learning to like playing with some other dogs. I enjoy going outside for walks and playing in the sun, but when it comes to staying indoors it's the cuddles that are the best. I’ll just keep your bed warm for you – I might even I push you off at times, but…

Dennis is my name and walking is the name of my game. I like going on walks a lot. I am six and a half years old. I am a large male shepherd mix, and I’ve been neutered. I have been working on not pulling while on the leash during our walks, and I am doing better – especially if you have a treat! However, I have some stipulations, ok? I need a home with no cats or small kids (small kids make me very nervous – why are they so small?). I am okay with some dogs, though.

Buddy is my name. I’m six and a half, but I think I don’t look a day over six. I’m a large, male terrier and pit bull. I can be very unsure of new people, and it takes some time for me to learn to show my true colors to people. Once I warm up to you, though, I am very loving, and I even dish out a good hug. I am very playful, but I also like relaxing, if you want to just chill. I need a home that is calm, with no other animals. I love going on walks and I am great on a leash.

Hi, my name is Stormy! I am a five-and-a-half-year-old German shepherd mix. I am a large female, so I don’t mind dressing up every once in a while. Just look at that silly costume. I am a bit shy at first but I warm up quickly. I’m quite a talker once I get warmed up, but I listen well too, so don’t worry. I’m smart, too, and I’m working on learning to sit and lie down. I really enjoy a good walk, too – all that fresh air! I’m good on a leash, I just like to walk.

Hi, hi, hi! Hello. My name is Rufus, I’m a big guy. I am a four-year-old shepard mix. If you couldn’t tell already, I have lots of energy I need to burn off. I would make a great hiking and adventure buddy. Oh, that sounds so fun, can we go hiking, please? I am extremely food-motivated and ready to learn. I am good with some dogs, and I just love people. I would be better in a home with older kids as I like to jump. If you have a cat, I don’t really know how to feel about those things.

Hello there. My name is Oatmeal. They tell me it's some sort of food, but it sounds weird to me. Anyway, I am a domestic shorthair mix, and I am about one and a half years old. I am a small male cat, but so are the rest of these cats in here, so I don’t mind too much. I haven’t been declawed and they don’t know if I’m housetrained or not. Come over and we can hang out.

I’m called Sardine, and I have a much better name than Oatmeal. Who would want oatmeal when they can have sardines? They don’t know how old I am or my gender, but does it really matter when I’m as cute as I am? I have not been declawed, and they don’t know if I am housetrained or not, but they do know I am a domestic, medium hair mix.

My name is Blue. I am a small domestic short hair mix, and I am only about 7 months old. Consequently, I am adorable, or at least that’s what everybody tells me. I have not been declawed or housetrained, but I’m sure you could since I am so young. How about you come by and see me in person?
