MOSES LAKE — Forty-two local piano students from Moses Lake, Ephrata, Soap Lake and Lind performed in the eighth annual Moses Lake-Central Basin Chapter of Washington State Music Teachers Association Music Festival, according to an announcement from Chapter President Marina Munter.

The festival was held Nov. 4 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake, Munter wrote. The theme was “Celebrate Baroque and Classical Composers.” The term "baroque" was originally used to describe a style of art, architecture and music prevalent in the 16th and 176th centuries, which emphasized highly decorative and extravagant design, Munter wrote.

Students performed Baroque pieces from centuries gone by, as well as displaying projects on composers and doing other musical activities. Students also decorated cookies.

Besides Munter, music teachers Rhonda Hummel, Gina Colver, Mary Merrell, Gracie Paine, Doreen Slaugh, Preta Laughlin and Harriet West participated.

“It was exciting to hear so many talented and amazing young performers,” Munter wrote in the announcement.  “We piano teachers are proud of each student who performed at the festival.”
