MOSES LAKE — Art on a small scale is featured at the Miniature Art Show, on display through Nov. 17 at Banner Bank, 322 S. Division St. in Moses Lake. The 15th annual art show is sponsored by Desert Artists.

Lenny Harm took home the first place award for her painting “Distant Thoughts.”

Submitted works all have one thing in common, they must fit within a 36-inch maximum perimeter, including the frame. Artworks that don’t have a frame must be wrapped around the edges of the canvas.

Other than that, any art medium goes.

“Whatever you can fit inside that frame,” said Desert Artists president Leanne Hickman.

Harm said it can be a challenge to find a subject that fits within the space allowed, and the tiny format can be a challenge for the artist’s hands and eyes. But Desert Artist members have been creating small artworks for so long they’ve learned how to master the format, she said.

“We keep working on little things all year long,” she said.

Hickman frequently uses feathers as a medium; other artists poured acrylics, went with oils and watercolors. Cats were popular subjects, and painters depicted landscapes, flowers and animals, among other subjects.

The show drew 54 entries, Hickman said. Many of the works are for sale.

Landscapes, pop art and florals are among the paintings on display in the miniature art show.
