MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake boy’s quick thinking prevented a possible tragedy Monday, according to a statement from the Moses Lake Fire Department.

At 3:40 p.m., firefighters were called to a residence for a report of smoke alarms sounding and smoke coming through the furnace vents, according to the statement. On arrival, the responders found 11-year-old Isaac Rodriguez at home alone. He had noticed the smoke, left the residence quickly and called 911, the statement said, and in less than 10 minutes a full response of three engines, two ambulances and two chief officers was on the scene.

“We at MLFD would like to commend the actions of Isaac Rodriguez for his quick thinking,” the MLFD wrote in the statement. “He did exactly what we hope everyone would do in this scenario. While he was home alone, he took incredible action which likely saved his family’s home.”
