Back to the cellar

MOSES LAKE — The Columbia Basin will rally around education once again this month, as the Big Bend Community College Foundation holds its annual Cellarbration! For Education dinner and auction.

This will be the 22nd time the foundation has held the event. Cellarbration! Raises money for student scholarships at Big Bend Community College. Last year’s event raised about $168,000, BBCC spokesperson Tiffany Fondren said.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a reception and a silent auction, according to the event’s website. Silent auction items will include wine, gift baskets, gift certificates, jewelry, hotel stays and fine dining opportunities, according to the website.

Cellarbration!, as the name might suggest, showcases local wines, and past events have included wine tastings and sales. One fundraising activity will be a wine wall, where patrons can pay a fee, pull a cork and be entered into a drawing to select any items from the live auction. There will be a dessert auction as well, in which attendees can bid on a variety of sweet concoctions.

The high point of the evening will be a live auction. The auction will be a hybrid one, meaning that bids can be made both in person and online. Live auction lots include a travel package to Nashville, with a three-night stay and guided tours, and a wine trip to Sonoma County in northern California, according to the foundation’s social media.

“I couldn't have made it without the scholarships that I received,” BBCC alumna Susanne White, who benefited from foundation scholarships, said at last year’s event. “That helped my family still be a family, and helped my kids still have a mother. It built my confidence … Receiving scholarships has helped me to keep moving towards my dream.”
