RECAP: Basin baseball March 20-25

COLUMBIA BASIN – Local baseball teams continued on through the early regular seasons, as many squads are now entering the teeth of league contests. See below for an update on the 10 Basin baseball teams and how they fared in last week’s action. All scores and records are per the WIAA.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline

The Warriors had their road doubleheader against Selkirk on Saturday rescheduled for April 7, so the team remains 2-0 after the season-opening wins over Cusick on March 18. ACH travels to Omak on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Ephrata

The Tigers fell 7-0 in a road game to Shadle Park out of the Greater Spokane League on Tuesday then dropped both games of a doubleheader against East Valley (Yakima) on Saturday, moving Ephrata to 0-6 on the year. On this week’s schedule is a non-league home contest against Eastmont on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and a league doubleheader at home against Selah beginning at 11 a.m.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague

LRS got its first win of the season in a 16-15 game against Odessa at home on Wednesday, where the Broncos scored more runs than they did in their first four games combined (15). The Broncos opened up league play on Saturday with losses to Northwest Christian (Colbert), falling 3-2 and 14-1. LRS will travel to Colfax and Asotin for doubleheaders on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.

Moses Lake

Moses Lake won its fifth-consecutive game this week, defeating Sunnyside three times in a four-day span. The Mavs first defeated the Grizzlies 5-0 at home on Tuesday before sweeping a doubleheader 13-0 and 5-0 on Friday in Sunnyside. Now 5-1, Moses Lake travels to Eisenhower on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before a home doubleheader against the Cadets on Friday starting at 3 p.m.

MLCA/CCS

The Lions faced off against the Ephrata C-Team in a road doubleheader on Wednesday, falling 17-7 and 8-7. MLCA/CCS dropped to 0-3 on the year with the losses.

Othello

The Huskies got back in the win column with a doubleheader sweep over Shadle Park on Saturday, winning 9-0 and 9-2 over the Highlanders on the road. Othello moved to 3-2 on the year with the wins and now prepares for a home non-league game against Deer Park on Tuesday at 3:30 and a league doubleheader on the road against Ellensburg on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

Quincy

After an 0-3 start to the season, the Quincy Jackrabbits got their first wins of the year with a 17-1 and a 21-0 win over Cascade (Leavenworth) on Saturday. Quincy, now 2-3, continues league play on Tuesday on the road against Omak at 6 p.m. and faces the Pioneers again on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at home.

Royal

The Knights began the week with a 13-6 loss against Toppenish on Tuesday and tied 2-2 in the nightcap to the Wildcats. Royal split a doubleheader against La Salle on Saturday, first winning 9-8 before losing 13-7 in the second game. This week, the Knights will host Connell in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

Wahluke

The Warrior bats came alive in a 28-18 win over Wapato on Tuesday, Wahluke’s first win of the year. Wahluke fell to 1-4 after dropping both games of a doubleheader on the road against Toppenish on Saturday. Up this week for the Warriors is a home doubleheader against College Place beginning at 3 p.m.

Warden

The Cougars fell in both games of a doubleheader against Cle Elum-Roslyn on Saturday, losing 6-0 and 14-2 to the Warriors. Now 2-3 on the year, Warden will host Walla Walla Valley in a doubleheader on Tuesday (3 p.m.) and Kittitas-Thorp for a doubleheader on Saturday (11 a.m.).
