Jeffrey David Sellen, who grew up in the Columbia Basin region before settling in Lynnwood, passed away on Feb. 19 from heart failure. He was 62.

Jeff, born May 4, 1960, graduated from Warden High School in 1978. As a teenager, he loved to work on classic cars and motorcycles. Jeff moved out of state to pursue a bachelor’s degree, but he left university after his freshman year to follow his passion for the arts, becoming one of the most highly sought-after artists, designers, and masters of stone masonry in the Seattle area.

During a four-decade career in stone masonry, he founded his own firm, J.D. Sellen Design Stone & Marble Company. His attention to detail and precision with natural stones has been displayed in catalogs and magazines of fine home building for decades.

He returned briefly to the Moses Lake area when he started his family. Jeff had five beautiful children: Denny Sellen, MaryJayne Ludt (Kevin), Patrick Sellen, MollyAnne Ramos (Arturo) and RoseMarie Sellen. He added the title of grandpa with three adorable grandchildren: Cathy, 9, Audrey, 2, and Joseph, 1.

Jeff was a huge animal lover. He would adopt any stray cat and treat them like his own child. He was a gifted and talented artist and loved painting and drawing in his free time. He loved movies and would sit down all day, binging everything from the classics to current blockbusters. He was a die-hard Star Wars fan, enjoying the play on his May fourth birthday and became the meme “May the Fourth be with You.”

Jeff loved to make people laugh. Jeff said he would have been a stand-up comic if he had not pursued his artistic talents. He loved cooking and tending to his rose bush garden in his front yard. Jeff was a huge classic rock fan, loving the timeless hits of KISS and Pink Floyd.

“I can remember driving around town, listening to music while Dad would ask me band trivia questions,” recalled his daughter RoseMarie.

Jeff is the son of Pamp and Barbara Maiers of Moses Lake. He is preceded in death by his sister Joy Maiers. He is survived by his five children and their spouses; three grandchildren; his sisters Stephanie Chambers (Allan), Christina Burns (Sean) and Staci Maiers Woods (Christopher); and his brothers John Sellen (Bonnie) and Pamp Maiers (Kimberly). He loved playing with his 12 nieces and nephews.
