Grant PUD warns of potential scammers
EPHRATA – The Grant County Public Utility District announced Friday that the county has been targeted by a scam from a third-party carll center.
“It has come to our attention that a 3rd party call center, falsely claiming to represent Grant PUD, has been contacting customers to schedule home energy services audit appointments at their home,” the announcement read.
The PUD’s statement also advised that the district does not employ any call centers for such purposes and anyone calling to set up an appointment for an energy audit, energy rebate program or conservation members are likely to be scammers attempting to get consumers’ personal information or steal from them via fraud.
The PUD advised that consumers follow the tips below to avoid cams.
- Verify Credentials: PUD official team members, Christopher B., Eric H., Brooklyn G., Emma W., are the only individuals authorized to conduct home audits on behalf of Grant PUD. They will always arrive in a marked vehicle and carry proper identification badges.
- Question and Verify: If you have any doubts about the authenticity of a scheduled audit please call us at 509-766-2512 to verify the appointment details.
- Report Suspicious Activity: In the event that you have unknowingly allowed access to your home for an energy services audit/rebate appointment that was not conducted by one of our identified team members listed here, please contact local law enforcement and file a report immediately upon verifying the incident.
The PUD said the safety and security of consumers was highly important to PUD staff and any legitimate contact from them would be easily verifiable with a call back as noted above.
