Fire Report for July 25, 2023

GOLDENDALE — The Newell Road fire in Klickitat County had burned 30,000 acres about 17 miles east of Goldendale Saturday morning. The fire, which was discovered about 3:30 p.m. Friday, was 0% contained Saturday afternoon and the costs had mounted to $750,000, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

The Badger Mountain fire about five miles northeast of Wenatchee sprang up Thursday afternoon about 3:30 and by 10 p.m. was up to about 700 acres, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The fire was fully contained Saturday afternoon and Badger Mountain Road had reopened.

Two wildfires were burning Friday along Interstate 82 between Ellensburg and Yakima, according to the NINF. The Lost Spring fire, about 7 miles southeast of Ellensburg, was detected at 3:17 p.m. Thursday and was at 5 acres Friday morning, and the Burbank Valley fire, about 10 miles northeast of Yakima, was discovered at 3:34 p.m. Thursday and had spread to 40 acres Friday.

These wildfires were also burning in Washington as of Saturday afternoon, according to the NIFC:

• John Day Dam, about 9 miles southeast of Goldendale: 60 acres. Fire discovered July 8. Containment and cost information not available.

• John Sam, on the Tulalip Reservation adjacent to Marysville: 2 acres. Fire discovered July 22. Containment and cost information not available.

• Airplane Lake, about 50 miles northwest of Chelan: 6 acres. Fire discovered July 7. 0% contained. Costs estimated at $50,000.

• Consalus, about 20 miles north of Newport: 466 acres. Fire discovered June 30. 30% contained. Costs estimated at $10,000,000.

• McEwan, about three miles northeast of Shelton: 250 acres. Fire discovered July 4. 85% contained. Costs estimated at $1,850,000.

• OIE Highway, about 10 miles northeast of Prosser: 1,300 acres. Fire discovered July 3. 100% contained. Costs estimated at $75,000.

• Gold Mountain Ridge, about 12 miles northeast of Keller: 28.8 acres. Fire discovered June 29. 100% contained. Costs estimated at $3,000,000.
