OTHELLO — CHS Sun Basin Growers recently donated to Adams County District 5, according to a statement from the fire district.
CHS Senior Director of Operations Tyson Chick and Director of Operations Chris Guess last week presented a check for $10,000 to Chief Gary Lebacken. The money, provided by CHS’ Seeds of Stewardship program, will go toward replacing extrication tools with new tools that can be deployed faster, require less manpower and offer more capabilities than the current tools, according to the statement.
The CHS Seeds for Stewardship program matches cooperative contributions for projects in rural communities, according to CHS’ website. Since 2020, more than 300 communities have benefited from matching grants.
EPHRATA — Heavenly Roofing in Ephrata will hold a coloring contest this month for budding artists up to 12 years old, according to an announcement from the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce.
Seven winners will receive a free wristband good for one day’s worth of unlimited rides at the Grant County Fair carnival, which takes place Aug. 15-19. Parents can pick up coloring pages at Heavenly Roofing’s office at 534 E. Division Ave. in Ephrata. The deadline to drop off completed pages is Aug. 10, the announcement said, and winners will be announced Aug. 11.
ROYAL CITY — A truck driver was injured in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning, near Royal City, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol.
Balwant Singh, 65, of Auburn, was driving a 2015 Freightliner with a trailer eastbound on State Route 26, about 6 miles east of Royal City, at about 9:30 a.m. when he drifted onto the eastbound shoulder. Singh overcorrected into the westbound lane and the truck rolled onto its side, coming to rest in the westbound ditch, according to the statement.
Singh was transported to Samaritan Hospital and charged with negligent driving, the statement said. It was unknown whether Singh was wearing a seat belt, or whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the accident.
