Gary Wayne Rosenow
Feb. 20, 1944 — June 15, 2023
Our "Knight in shining armor" lost his valiant fight of 19 months against cancer June 15, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Gary Wayne Rosenow, 79, was born Feb. 20, 1944, to David and Hilda (Reichert) Rosenow in Yakima, Wash. He was the 10th child of 12. Gary grew up on a small farm/dairy in the Yakima Valley. Gary shared many humorous tales of what working on the dairy with his brothers and sisters was like. Not all the stories were funny as it was a very arduous life. There's no doubt that this is when he learned the importance of being diligent, conscientious, hardworking and responsible. Gary demonstrated these traits throughout his working career.
Gary moved with his family in 1959 to Moses Lake. He graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1962. He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and assigned to Mannheim, Germany. He served out his term and was honorably discharged in 1967.
In 1977, he met and married Diana Scheuffele, an elementary school teacher in Moses Lake. It may have been a "blind" date, but it lasted for 45 years. They were blessed with one child, Dave, but also considered Dave's best friend since junior high, Matt Peters, as their "second" son.
Gary worked various types of jobs throughout his lifetime including retail buyer for the Tri-State store in Moscow, Idaho, carpenter for Pat Riley, custodial supervisor for Moses Lake School District and, lastly, driver for People For People Transportation.
Family was exceedingly important to Gary. He enjoyed working in his shop and tending his vegetable garden. He was an extremely proud father, a very involved "g-pa" who wouldn't miss his granddaughters' soccer games if he could help it, and a wonderful and loving husband who often spoiled his wife. Gary was a kind, gentle and thoughtful man who had Christ in his heart.
Gary is survived by his wife, Diana; son Dave; and granddaughters Abbigail and Emma Rosenow, all of Moses Lake, Wash.; sisters Carolyn Allen and Geri Varney, both of Spokane, Wash.; and brothers Allan and Mike (Doris) Rosenow, both of Moses Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard, Maurice Ronald and Steve Rosenow; and his sisters, Marian Corbin, Rouine Sirstin and Eleanor Bossout.
You may have lost the battle against cancer, brave Knight, but you have won the war of eternal life and are now rejoicing with Jesus.
Interment will be at Guarding Angels Cemetery, Moses Lake, at 10 a.m., July 26, 2023, followed by a celebration of life to be held at the Moses Lake United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the care of Kayser’s Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Moses Lake United Methodist church.
