Local teams compete in Babe Ruth tourney
MOSES LAKE – Babe Ruth North Washington State Tournaments were held from Wenatchee to Moses Lake over the weekend, with numerous local youth squads aiming to qualify for the regional rounds of their respective age divisions.
Full results from the tournaments were not available in time for press deadline, but read along to see how youth teams fared in the first two days of tournament action on Thursday and Friday.
9U North Washington State Tournament - Wenatchee
9U Moses Lake fell in its first two games, first to 9U Wenatchee before a loss to 9U Lynden. In bracket play on Friday evening, Moses Lake fell to North Olympic.
10U North Washington State Tournament - Wenatchee
Fresh off its first tournament win at the Golden Glove tournament in Yakima, 10U Moses Lake (Gold) opened the tournament with a 3-0 record with wins over 10U Ephrata (15-0), 10U Ellensburg (6-5) and 10U Omak (11-5). With the wins, Moses Lake qualified for Saturday’s bracket play.
10U Moses Lake (Maroon) went 1-2 in the tournament, defeating 10U Mount Vernon in the opening game before falling to 10U Eastmont and 10U Wenatchee. Ephrata fell to Moses Lake (Gold), Omak and Ellensburg.
11U North Washington State Tournament - East Wenatchee
Local 11U teams from Moses Lake and Ephrata traveled to the state tournament in East Wenatchee, with Moses Lake going 3-0 on the first two days of the tournament with wins over Eastmont, Mount Vernon and North Olympic. Moses Lake qualified for bracket play on Saturday. Ephrata fell to Cashmere, Lynden and Wenatchee.
12U North Washington State Tournament - East Wenatchee
12U Moses Lake and Ephrata both hit the field at Eastmont Community Park, with Moses Lake defeating Ephrata 8-0 in the team’s final game of the tournament. Moses Lake fell to Mount Vernon and Wenatchee earlier in the tournament, while Ephrata also lost to the same teams.
13U North Washington State Tournament - Moses Lake
The 13U Columbia Basin River Dogs were the lone local team to compete at the 13U North Washington State Tournament in Moses Lake, matching up against Mount Vernon in an opening-round loss. In the elimination round, Columbia Basin fell 6-5 to Brewster.
14U North Washington State Tournament - Moses Lake
The 14U Columbia Basin River Dogs opened the tournament strong, powering to a 15-5 win over 14U Moses Lake on Thursday and an 8-6 win over the Stilly Venom on Friday.
“The boys have worked hard,” River Dog Head Coach Jaret Fulbright said. “We’ve played in a lot (of tough) tournaments this year, putting them up against tougher competition than in years past. I think that’s helped out.”
14U teams from Moses Lake and Ephrata also competed in the tournament, with Moses Lake falling to the River Dogs in the opening round before suffering a 16-15 loss to Whatcom County in the elimination round. Ephrata lost to Whatcom County in the opening round of the tournament, falling to Stilly Venom in the elimination round.
