Villa a 'good addition' at Mattawa PD
MATTAWA — Edgar Villa is the newest officer on the force at the Mattawa Police Department.
Villa was sworn in at the Jan. 19 Mattawa City Council meeting, introduced by MPD Chief Robert Salinas. Prior to joining the department Villa worked for the city in the business office.
“He’ll be a good addition to this agency,” Salinas said in a later interview.
“I appreciate the opportunity,” Villa told council members. “I’ll try to be the best cop I possibly can (and) try to stay as long as I can.”
Villa is a native of Mattawa and a 2018 graduate of Wahluke High School.
“He’s the oldest of four. He has three younger sisters,” Salinas said during the council meeting.
After being sworn in Villa started the field training process, which involves patrolling with experienced officers, Salinas said. That process takes two to three months.
City officials are in the process of hiring one more MPD officer, Salinas said.
