Texas governor flouts Christmas spirit with migrant stunt

| January 3, 2023 1:16 PM

Dear editor,

On Christmas Eve, when most Americans were rejoicing in this season of “goodwill toward men,” the Texas governor sent three buses of asylum seekers to DC as a cheesy political stunt.

Sending children, women, and men unprepared for 18-degree weather in D.C. was bad enough. Dumping them on the streets of D.C. helpless and alone was more than just cruelty at its worst. The governor revealed the depths of evil he would go to.

As a people, we believe in helping others. This value holds true all year – not just at Christmas time. We also believe in being kind to others, another American value.

However, when people like this governor behave despicably, we need to stand up for what is right and just. What Governor Abbott did was against the values which those of all faiths believe. He trampled on those beliefs with his atrocious and heartless deeds.

The good people of this country need to let Governor Abbott and others like him know that we expect, at minimum, that our leaders follow our examples of kindness to and acceptance of others with justice and fairness.
