James Liebrecht

| January 3, 2023 4:55 PM

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of James “Jim” Herman Liebrecht, 68, of Moses Lake at Sacred Heart Hospital of a failing heart on Dec. 30, 2022.

Jim was born to Herman and Joanne Liebrecht in 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen, in 1973. Together they raised two sons, James and Cole. He dearly loved his daughters-in-law Razz and Alexandrea. They were the daughters he never had. He enjoyed the love of his grandchildren Nia, Asha, Riley, Austin, Emma and Charlotte. His family was the delight of his life; they always came first. He is also survived by his brothers Steven, Michael and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Joanne and siblings David and Kathleen.

Jim was born in Toppenish, Washington and relocated to Moses Lake at the age of 10. He graduated from Moses Lake High School where he enjoyed football and wrestling. After graduation in 1973 he worked at U & I Sugar until the plant’s closure. He returned to school and attended college at BBCC for business administration and economics. He purchased and owned Animal Crackers, Clipper, Kennel and Co. for 40 years. There he established long relationships with clients and their “furry” kids. Jim also enjoyed driving bus for the district after retiring. He always has had a big heart for children which was always obvious in his daily interactions with them. His family always came first and he would be there the second he was needed. His generous nature was experienced both by his family and strangers he never would see again.

Jim was very proud of his local political involvement. He served on the Moses Lake City Council, Planning Commission and Parks and Rec Commission, the Grant County Solid Waste Committee and the Grant County Planning Commission. He served on the Grant County Search and Rescue. He taught Washington state firearm classes to many youths. He enjoyed becoming a light-sport pilot and owning his own plane where he met many pilots who enjoyed flying together.

Jim's sense of humor was enjoyed by those in his presence. People naturally gravitated to him. He loved his Lord; he asked Jesus to be his Savior at 21 years old. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He will be missed beyond words and we wait to be joined together with him and our Lord. We thank God for the impact and the love he shared. We will meet you at the gate.

A public service for all those who wish to attend Jim’s memorial is being held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at First Baptist Church Moses Lake, 724 W. Fourth Ave.
