ELLENSBURG — Author and environmentalist Taylor Brorby will visit Central Washington University on March 5, according to a statement from the university.

Brorby, the author of “Boys and Oil: Growing up Gay in a Fractured Land,” will discuss the impact creative writing can have on a real-world issue, among other topics, according to the statement. The appearance is part of CWU’s Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series.

“Boys and Oil” explores the complex relationship Brorby has with the North Dakota town where he grew up, according to the statement, feeling like he didn’t fit in with the people but finding the landscape beautiful.

The event will consist of a Craft Talk at 3 p.m. at Brooks Library, followed by a reading and lecture at 6 p.m. in the Dean Hall lobby, according to the statement. Both in-person events are free and open to the public; guests may also attend via Zoom by registering at the calendar listings at cwu.edu/events.
