Harriet West honored in hall of fame
MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake musician and music teacher will be inducted into the Washington State Music Teachers Hall of Fame, according to a statement from Marina Munter, president of the WSMTA’s Moses Lake chapter.
Harriet West has been selected to be honored and inducted into the WSMTA Hall of Fame for 2023 during the Hall of Fame Award Presentation at the WSMTA Conference in June, held at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop, according to the statement.
West’s induction follows a long career as a piano teacher and player, including accompanying the Moses Lake High School choir for 22 years and serving as a church pianist at various houses of worship for more than 40 years, the statement said. West also played a pivotal role in getting a grand piano for the Moses Lake chapter, working with city officials and helping with fundraisers to acquire the piano and install it in the Moses Lake Civic Center auditorium, according to the statement..
“I’ve known Harriet West for 27 years, as a colleague, a wonderful friend, and as a person who in so many ways has given herself to the needs of others,” Munter wrote in the statement.
The WSMTA Hall of Fame was established to give recognition for exceptional support, inspiration and outstanding contribution to the growth and development of music and music education, both public and private, in the state of Washington, the statement said.
