OROVILLE — The Highway 97 bridge across the Okanogan River south of Oroville will close for several weeks beginning Sept. 6. The bridge is located about a mile south of town.

A press release from the Washington Department of Transportation said detours will be in place in both directions, which will include a one-lane bridge. Traffic across the bridge will be directed by a portable traffic signal, the press release said.

“During the closure, crews will regrade and smooth about 400 feet of the highway approaching the bridge and resurface the bridge deck,” the release said. “Over time this section of the highway has deteriorated with many bumps in the pavement. A regrading of the road will help make a smoother crossing for travelers (using) the Okanogan River Bridge and nearby railroad crossing.”
