One killed in Othello area accident

OTHELLO — A Grandview man died Monday night in a single-vehicle accident near Othello, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol.

Ignacio G. Beraza, 70, was driving eastbound on State Route 24 just west of Sagehill Road in a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe a little before 11:30 p.m., according to the statement, when he changed into the westbound lane to pass another vehicle. While entering back into the eastbound lane, Beraza lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway. He struck the guard rail, flipped and rolled, coming to rest in the ditch on the eastbound side.

Beraza was declared dead at the scene, according to the statement. He was not wearing a seat belt and excessive speed was given as the cause of the collision. It was unknown whether alcohol or drugs was a factor.
