Kast sisters sign with BBCC

MOSES LAKE – Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School seniors Kali and Makiya Kast have signed to play basketball at Big Bend Community College.

“I’ve known Kali and Makiya since they were little girls,” said Preston Wilks, the head coach of BBCC women's basketball.

Wilks has been coaching at BBCC for 23 years; Seven with the men’s basketball program and 16 with the women’s. He said during that time, they used to hold basketball camps and both Kast girls were always in attendance. He said there was a point where they would hold two sessions of the camp in the same day to try to attract more kids by creating a second option for attendance. The Kast girls would not only attend but attend both sessions.

“Right then I just remember thinking, ‘Man, these guys are probably going to be ballers some day,’” Wilks said. “And sure enough, fast forward however many years ago that was, and they did. They turned out to be great ballers.”
