November 13, 1936 – April 17, 2023

Shirley LaVon Colley, 86, was born to Morley and Ann (Kramer) Kerr on Nov. 13, 1936, in Kelso, Washington. Shirley passed to her rest on April 17, 2023, believing in the hope of the resurrection promised by the grace of her Lord Jesus Christ.

She was the eldest of five children. The family moved around during her early years so Shirley attended many different schools including Granger.

In 1954 Shirley married the late George Price Colley. They lived in Sunnyside until moving to Othello in 1956. The Colleys were one of the first mint farmers in the Othello area.

She helped in many ways on the family farm. Shirley enjoyed working on the farm. She also enjoyed baking cherry pies, almost as much as her family enjoyed eating them. She had perfected a flaky, light, golden crust.

An active member of the Othello Seventh-day Adventist Church, Shirley contributed in many ways. She was generous and willing to help others. During Fellowship meals she rarely sat but instead made sure everyone had what they needed and kept the kitchen tidy.

Her children and grandchildren were a great blessing to her. Single-handedly she would take her older grandchildren on summer camping trips in the old Winnebago. Her younger grandchildren would often visit and they would watch old Westerns together. The children and grandchildren all knew they could find various ice cream treats in her little freezer.

Shirley is survived by her sister Sandy (Mike) Burrows and her three children, George (Denise) Colley, Cindy (Tim) Cook and Richard (Cindy) Colley. She has seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents and three siblings Nila, Marvin and Jan.

The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Coventry House Assisted Living in Othello, Washington. They were helpful, kind, and pleasant as they cared for Shirley during her time there.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello, Washington.
