Moses Lake Roundup to raffle demo derby experience
MOSES LAKE – Have you wanted to participate in a demolition derby, but didn’t have a car? The Moses Lake Roundup has a solution for that.
Along with sponsor Brandon Douglass from Windermere Real Estate, the Moses Lake Roundup is auctioning off an opportunity to participate in the Agri-Service Demo Derby by driving a 1974 Camaro Demo Car.
“We wanted to do something different to get the crowd to come out more and support our rodeo and demo,” said Alex Alvarado, a member of the board of directors for the Moses Lake Roundup.
Alvarado said the idea to auction off the car came from Aaron Schrodt, committee chairman of the demo derby.
“The idea came from us trying to get people out of the stands and give them an opportunity to get into the car and actually be a part of the show,” Schrodt said. “People come from all walks of life, so some people may not know how to build the car, have the money to build the car or have a place to store the car. We figured if we just build the car and give them the opportunity, all they have to do is show up and race it.”
The safety of drivers was of the utmost concern when putting together the raffle.
“The car is built to keep people safe in mind,” Schrodt said. “The car has a complete roll cage, fire suppression system, and five-point harness seat. That was our main priority, we want them to feel safe in the car and have a good experience at the demo.”
Those interested can purchase raffle tickets for $25 at the following locations; Agri-Service Moses Lake, Basin Feed Moses Lake, Windermere Brandon Douglass, Moses Lake Steel, Animal World Veterinary Clinic and Coffee Club House. Tickets are on sale now and the raffle drawing is on July 29. The Agri-Service Demo Derby is held on Aug. 16.
“We’d like for it to be a yearly thing,” Schrodt said. “Obviously, it depends on how the car survives. We built the car hoping it’ll last for a couple of years and be able to continue this whole thing.”
