Lawrence Wayne Hembroff
June 27, 1936 - March 2, 2023
Lawrence Wayne Hembroff passed away peacefully with family at his side on March 2, 2023, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, due to an extended illness.
Larry was born on June 27, 1936, on the family farm in North Dakota, to Walter and Delia Hembroff. He always had someone to get into mischief with, as he had 12 brothers and sisters. He served his country in the Army, as a paratrooper and an electronics technician. He came to Washington, where he continued his career-trade a journeyman electrician at the shipyards in Seattle. He retired after logging 50 years of service in the trade working for Boeing, J & M Electric and Grant County PUD. In his off-time, he enjoyed watching his kids participate in football, wrestling, bowling, track, band, and softball/baseball.
His favorite hobby was anything to do with hunting and land preservation. He served as Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation chairman of the Grant County Chapter for many years, and worked with Doug and Liann Marsh, regional RMEF director. He always had books of raffle tickets to sell, and gathered lots of donations for the annual banquets. His favorite job at the annual banquets was selling sponsorships and life memberships. He spent many weekends traveling and helping the other Washington chapters.
He has also followed the Seahawks and Mariners for many years, taking weekend road trips to Seattle to attend the games. Nothing like a king dog and peanuts. But the best seat was at home on the couch. Mute commentary and add his own spin on it.
He also enjoyed tinkering in the garden with the seasonal flowers, growing and delivering fruits and vegetables to all the Ridgeview neighbors. The acre of yard and garden was a bit much to keep up with, so they downsized when they moved to East Wenatchee, a much smaller yard and beautiful views.
He is survived by his wife Debra Hembroff of 40 years and his four children David (Jill) Hembroff of Kalispell, Montana, Janine (Brian) Zietlow of Moses Lake, Annette (Scott) Cervine of East Wenatchee; and Nathan (Amie) Holes of Utah. He has six grandchildren: Melissa (Joel) Harder, Rebekkah and Jakob Hembroff, Cadin and Devon Cervine and Silas Holes; one great-grandchild Olivia; and his only living sibling, Evelyn Messall.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Delia, and 11 of his 13 siblings.
Per his final wishes, he was cremated and will have his ashes scattered on his favorite hunting grounds, “The Clockum,” by Doug Marsh later in the spring.
Arrangements are in the care of Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
