December 17, 1929 – April 7, 2023

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend Jackie Garrison passed away on April 7, 2023, at the age of 93 with family at her side.

Jackie was born on Dec. 17, 1929, to John and Edith Kappel in Ruff, Washington. She was a farm girl, growing up on a dryland wheat farm where she drove truck for her family. She graduated from high school in Ritzville, Washington and went on to secretarial school in Spokane, Washington.

In 1953, Jackie wed her husband of almost 70 years, Jim Garrison, in Moses Lake, WA. They lived in Olympia while Jim served in the army before settling in Moses Lake in 1955, where they went on to have two children, Gwen and Jay. She was a dedicated wife and mother supporting her family in any and all endeavors.

In 1971, Jackie began working at the USDA marketing division, where she would remain for 20 years, earning two certificates of merit and recognition in Washington, D.C. from the Secretary of Agriculture. For many years, Jackie volunteered as a poll worker organizing voting at Knolls Vista Elementary and registering citizens to vote during the Grant County Fair.

One of Jackie’s greatest joys was being a grandmother to two and great-grandmother to two. She supported her grandchildren in every activity and event they took part in. Her home was the site of countless sleepovers and special memories.

Jackie spent hours sewing, knitting and doing embroidery. She donated numerous blankets and slippers to children’s hospitals in Washington. For many years, her grandchildren could expect to find a new pair of knitted slippers hanging from the Christmas tree. Jackie was also an avid reader. One was certain to find a book and needlepoint project beside her living room chair. Jackie was a sports fan. She enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and Seattle SuperSonics but her favorite team was whichever one her grandchildren were playing on.

Jackie was predeceased by her parents John and Edith Kappel, her sister and brother-in-law Norman and Aloma Bischoff, sister and brother-in-law Verlin and Georgia Elliot and sister Claudia Bushbaum. She is survived by her husband Jim Garrison, daughter Gwen (Brent) Hult, son Jay Garrison, grandchildren Annie (Jeremy) Shuler and Aaron Hult, and great-grandchildren Natalie and J.J. Shuler.

Jackie was known for her loyalty, grit and unconditional love of family. We will miss her forever.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 18 at the Guardian Angels Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Journey Church, located at 303 E. Nelson Road, Moses Lake. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or Journey Church.
