March 30, 1944 – April 5, 2023

Gary G. Clune, 79, was born on March 30, 1944, in Hibbing Minnesota. He passed away at home peacefully in Moses Lake on April 5, 2023.

Soon after Gary was born, the family moved to the Seattle area where he lived until retirement, when he moved to Moses Lake.

In 1961, Gary joined the Laborers’ Heavy and Highway Construction Union. He spent the next 40 years in the construction industry, except for a two-year break when he was drafted into the Army.

A few years after being honorably discharged, Gary and his former wife Donna welcomed their first child, Michelle, into the family, followed by their son Alan a few years later.

In 1979, Gary became a union leader and was financial-secretary-treasurer for Local 440 in Seattle. He then became business manager/secretary treasurer. Gary was in charge of representing 1,500 construction union members, while negotiating contracts, enforcing labor agreements and sitting on health and welfare and pension fund boards. His focus was to help improve the lives of his members.

Gary met Mary Lou Armstrong and they were married in 1993.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman, camping, hunting and fishing. Fall was his favorite time of year.

Gary and Mary Lou enjoyed being at the cabin in Colville, where they spent time with friends and family.

In addition to his wife Mary Lou, he is survived by his six children Michelle (Jeff) Daughs, Alan (DeeDee) Clune, Terri Taylor, Rick (Christine) Armstrong, Toni Armstrong and Kelly (Jody) Armstrong; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at the Grant County Fairgrounds Huck Fuller Building.
