Diamond recap: Basebal and softball in the Basin
COLUMBIA BASIN – Even though several baseball and softball teams across the Basin had last week off for spring break, a handful of local squads took to the field for game action. See below for an update on how teams fared along with upcoming games for this week. All scores are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, also known as WIAA.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Baseball
The 3-0 Warriors had their Saturday doubleheader against Selkirk canceled due to weather but return to the diamond on the road against Curlew for a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is at 2 p.m. against the Cougars.
Softball
ACH had the week off last week, but will host 2B Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Warriors, 3-1 this season, will return to league play in a home doubleheader against Northport on Saturday. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
Ephrata
Baseball
The Tigers fell in both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Othello last week, with scores of 3-0 and 1-0 to the Huskies. Ephrata travels to Tri-Cities Prep for a standalone game on Tuesday at 4 p.m., then hosts Ellensburg for a league doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Softball
The 6-2 Tigers had the week off last week, but recently split a doubleheader against East Valley (Yakima) on April 1, losing 17-13 in the first game and winning 11-7 in the nightcap. Ephrata will play two doubleheaders this week, first hosting Selah at 4 and 6 p.m. on Tuesday before traveling to Othello on Saturday. First pitch on Saturday is at 11 a.m.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
Baseball
After a week off for spring break, the Broncos will host league doubleheaders against Liberty (Spangle) on Tuesday at 2 and 4 p.m. and against Davenport on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
Softball
Similarly to the LRS baseball team, the Bronco softball team will host league doubleheaders against Asotin on Tuesday and Davenport on Saturday. In the team’s last outing, a doubleheader on the road against Asotin, LRS split the games, first a 13-3 win then a 9-8 loss to the Panthers.
Moses Lake
Baseball
The Mavericks went 2-1 last week, all against Eastmont. Moses Lake first won 5-2 over the Wildcats on Tuesday in Moses Lake, then traveled to East Wenatchee for a doubleheader on Friday where the Mavs went 1-1. The first game ended in a 2-1 Eastmont win, then the Mavericks won the nightcap 5-3. The Mavs (10-2) have the week off this week and will return for a standalone road game against Davis on April 18.
Softball
Moses Lake returns to the field on Wednesday at home against Richland, marking 11 days since its previous game.
MLCA/CCS
Baseball
After a 20-day break, the Lions will travel to Cascade (Leavenworth) for a doubleheader against the Kodiaks on Tuesday. MLCA/CCS will host the Ephrata C-Team for a standalone game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., then travel to Riverside Christian for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Othello
Baseball
The Huskies hosted two doubleheaders last week, going 3-1 against Pullman and Ephrata. Othello first split a Tuesday doubleheader against the Greyhounds, falling 4-3 in the opening game before a 9-6 win in the second game. On Saturday, the Huskies swept Ephrata with a 3-0 and a 1-0 win. Othello hosts Hazen at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday before a road league doubleheader against Prosser beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Softball
Othello stayed busy during spring break, playing four games over the course of Friday and Saturday. The Huskies first fell 9-3 to Richland on Friday before beating Hanford 9-4 later in the day. On Saturday, Othello swept Ellensburg with 19-3 and 13-7 wins over the Bulldogs. Now in the teeth of league play, The Huskies host Ephrata on Friday for a doubleheader.
Quincy
Baseball
The Jackrabbits moved to 4-4 on the year after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday against Royal, falling 9-5 in the first game before winning 6-4 in the second game. Quincy returns to league play with a standalone home game against Cashmere at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and a home doubleheader against Chelan beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Softball
The 6-1 Jackrabbits had the week off from game action last week but return to the field with three home league contests. Quincy will first face Cashmere at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday before a Saturday doubleheader against Chelan on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
Royal
Baseball
The Knights snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over Quincy on Saturday morning, but fell to the Jackrabbits 6-4 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Royal will play two doubleheaders this week, first at home against Zillah beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday before a road doubleheader on Saturday against Kiona-Benton City starting at 11 a.m.
Softball
After suffering its first loss of the year to Eastmont on March 30, Royal returned to the field for a doubleheader against Deer Park and Riverside on Saturday, winning 9-1 and 16-4, respectively. Now 8-1 on the year, Royal hosts Zillah for a doubleheader on Tuesday before traveling to Naches Valley on Saturday for a doubleheader.
Wahluke
Baseball
The Warriors had the week off last week, and now prepare for a doubleheader against Warden on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. Later in the week, Wahluke travels to Connell for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Softball
The Warrior softball team also had last week off, along with this week. Wahluke’s next game is a doubleheader against Kiona-Benton City on April 22.
Warden
Baseball
The 5-4 Cougars had last week off and will host Wahluke for a doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. Later in the week, Warden travels to Dayton-Waitsburg for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
Softball
Warden moved to 7-0 with wins over Colfax and Kittitas-Thorp last week, winning 19-0 and 23-9, respectively. The Cougars were scheduled to travel to Adna for a doubleheader over the weekend, but the games were canceled. On Saturday, Warden will travel to Dayton-Waitsburg for a doubleheader against the Wolfpack.
