RECAP: Moses Lake, Warden baseball post double-digit wins

COLUMBIA BASIN – Nearly a month into the 2023 season, baseball teams from across the Basin put up some high-powered wins during the previous week of action. See below for an update on how local squads fared in last week’s games.

All scores are according to the WIAA.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline

The only game on last week’s schedule for the Warriors was a road game against Omak, which ended in a 9-0 win. Now 3-0 this season, ACH will return to league play with a road doubleheader against Selkirk on Friday. First pitch is at 12 p.m.

Ephrata

The Tigers began last week with a home game against 4A Eastmont, falling 17-3. Ephrata returned to league games with a home doubleheader against Selah on Saturday, losing 1-0 in the first game and 5-0 in the nightcap. The Tigers will travel to Othello for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.

Lind-RItzville/Sprague

LRS played in two road league doubleheaders last week, first falling to Colfax 10-0 and 12-2 on Wednesday. On Saturday, the Broncos traveled to take on Asotin and fell 10-0 and 15-5. The Broncos are off this week and return to the field for a home doubleheader on April 11 against Liberty.

Moses Lake

The Mavericks swept Eisenhower last week, first winning 10-7 on Tuesday on the road before winning both games of a doubleheader on Friday (20-1 and 8-0). The 8-1 Mavs have only surrendered 13 runs in their nine outings to start the 2023 campaign. Moses Lake will host Eastmont at 4 p.m. on Tuesday before traveling to East Wenatchee for a doubleheader against the Wildcats on Friday.

Othello

The Huskies began the week with a come-from-behind win over Deer park, winning 7-2 after being down 2-1 in the sixth inning before rallying for six runs in the sixth. Othello traveled to Ellensburg for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs on Saturday, falling 11-1 and 11-3. Now 4-4 this season, the Huskies will host Pullman in a doubleheader on Tuesday and Ephrata in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Quincy

The Jackrabbits evened their record at 3-3 with a 9-4 win over Omak last week, where sophomore pitcher Evander Stephens recorded 12 strikeouts in the win. Quincy will travel to Royal for a doubleheader against the Knights on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

Royal

Royal played in a doubleheader against Connell last week, falling 15-14 and 15-7 to the Eagles. The Knights will return to the field with a doubleheader against Quincy on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

Wahluke

Wahluke fell in both games of a doubleheader against College Place on Friday, losing 11-2 and 13-2 in the nightcap. The Warriors are off this week and return to the diamond on the road against Warden on April 11 at 3 p.m.

Warden

The Cougars blew out Walla Walla Valley on Tuesday, winning 27-3 and 36-0 in a doubleheader against the Knights. Warden followed up the impressive wins by splitting a doubleheader against Kittitas-Thorp on Saturday, first losing 9-4 before winning 9-6.
