OSLO — REC Silicon announced that Kurtis Levens has been named the new company’s chief executive officer.

Levens, previously the company’s senior vice president and general manager of electronic grade polysilicon and silicon gasses, replaced James May II, who was named interim CEO in November following the retirement of Tore Torvund, according to an REC press release.

The release said Levens has worked for REC for more than 15 years, including a decade managing the company’s silane — silicon gas — production lines as well as in sales, marketing and planning. Prior to joining REC, the statement said Levens has held various positions with industrial gas producers and holds a bachelor of science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

REC Board Chairman Koo Yung Lee said board members appreciated the time and service May gave to REC, and that Levens’ appointment brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the company’s chief executive job, according to the statement.

Levens began his new job with REC on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
