Vernon Leroy Little
November 1, 1944 – September 2, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon Leroy Little announces his passing. Vernon passed away suddenly on the evening of Sept. 2, 2022, at his home. He was 77 years old.
Vernon was born Nov. 1, 1944, in Brush, Colorado to Everett Leroy Little and Mary Jane (Massengale) Little. The family moved to Moses Lake, Washington from Kennewick, Washington in 1958. Vern attended Frontier and graduated from the Moses Lake High School in 1963. He attended Big Bend Community College and went to work at Basic American Foods where he worked for over 28 years before becoming a bus driver and later a bus mechanic for the Moses Lake School District, after which he retired. He was an avid fan of football, hunting, fishing, camping and racing. In his younger years he raced at the Ephrata Speedway in Car No. 44. He passed his love of racing onto his oldest nephew who continued his legacy in Car No. 44 and enjoyed being part of his nephew's pit crew.
Vernon will be remembered for his sense of humor. He usually had a joke to tell or a prank to play, or was trying to scare someone. He was always there when you needed him. He loved his family unconditionally and was honored to walk his daughter, niece, and granddaughter down the aisle at their weddings. He loved going to his grandkids' games and performances; he was their biggest cheerleader.
Vernon had an uncanny way of knowing when his oldest sister would bake chocolate chip cookies or his youngest sister would make chocolate no-bake cookies and would, without fail, stop by to taste-test them.
His faith in God was unwavering. He attended church on a regular basis, served as a deacon for many years, read his Bible and bowed his head to pray before enjoying a meal.
Vernon was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his ex-wife Joyce Padilla; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda (Steve) Alexander-Cook; son Vernon Keith Little; grandchildren Alexis Abrahams-Little, Tiffany Alexander, Garrett Alexander and Savannah Alexander; sisters Janet Lincoln and Cheryl Prentice; nieces, nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and people he took under his wing as family. His passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts and family. God now has him in his arms and we now have him in our memories.
The memorial will be Oct. 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. at The Moses Lake Bible Church, 7801 NE Chanute St., Moses Lake, Washington. Please come celebrate his life and share your memories of him with his family.
