Quincy Middle School schedules presentations for parents
QUINCY — Quincy Middle School officials will sponsor a presentation to help parents and guardians supervise their children’s online activities Sept. 28. A separate presentation to help parents respond to a violent incident at school is scheduled for Oct. 12.
The “White Hatter” presentation for parents is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the QMS performing arts center, 16 Sixth Ave. SE.
The Sept. 28 White Hatter presentation will address the positives and negatives of using the internet and social media, and the challenges faced by parents and children in managing online use. The subjects discussed include online predators, personal legal consequences for online behavior, sexting and nudes, and online exploitation.
The presentation will be online, and Spanish translation will be available. Middle school principal Scott Ramsey said parents will be able to watch from home as well; the login information for that will be announced.
Presenter Jesus Villahermosa will talk about how parents can prepare their children for the possibility of a school shooter from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at the performing arts center.
“Surviving the Active Lethal Event Threat: What Every Parent Needs to Know” is open to adults only. Villahermosa will discuss preparing for the possibility of violence, like a school shooter, and responding to it. He will talk about personal survival plans for students, and why parents should work with their children to prepare a plan.
Both presentations are free.
