Yakama Nation gets funds for sex offender registration
YAKIMA — The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation have been awarded a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to keep sex offender registrations current, according to a press release.
The announcement, which came from Vanessa R. Waldref, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, said that the grant follows the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act to help ensure that all states and Indian Tribes maintain an active sex offender registry and require registered sex offenders to maintain current registration in each jurisdiction where the individual lives, works or goes to school, the release said.
Sex offender registries are required to include the following information: duration of registration, in-person verification of sex offender registration information, offenders’ participation in the National Sex Offender Public Website and inter-jurisdictional notification of relocating offenders, according to the release.
