Mavs swim to success

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks swam away with a win in the Columbia Basin Big 9 girls’ swim and dive district meet this weekend, scoring a combined 529 points. With the win, the Mavs advance to the 2022 state meet in Federal Way on Nov. 10-12.

The Mavs had first-place finishes in the 50-yard, 100-yard, 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events and the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Moses Lake also earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke event.

Senior Makhaela Parrish finished first in the 200-yard freestyle and junior Issabelle Parrish finished first in the 50-, 100- and 500-yard freestyle events. Sophomore Kathryn DuVall time of 1:11.18 was the fastest in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Moses Lake’s team of Makhaela Parrish, DuVall, sophomore Julia Heaps and Issabelle Parrish came in first with a combined time of 1:40.06. The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisted of freshman Bria Bodenman, Makhaela Parrish, Aniston Dana and Issabelle Parrish who finished in 3:42.72.

The Columbia Basin Herald is meeting with the coach and team Tuesday morning and a feature on their 2022 season will appear in Wednesday’s paper.
