OTHELLO — A major intersection on S.R. 24 south of Othello was blocked for several hours on Thursday after a potato truck overturned while traversing the roundabout with Bench Road and spilled its load of potatoes.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Collin Cumaravel, driver Narcisco Cruz-Merida was driving a truckload of potatoes when the load tipped as he was crossing the roundabout, became fully unbalanced and the load rolled over.

Cumaravel said Cruz-Merida was uninjured in the accident.

“We don’t know how fast he was driving, and drove over part of the roundabout,” Cumaravel said.

Deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident. Cumaravel said it took about two hours to clean up.
