March 25, 1943 – September 24, 2022

Mary Burgess passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 24. She looked forward to joining her husband in their eternal home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Mary was born March 25, 1943, to Hazel and Earl Groeper in Tacoma, Washington. Mary grew up in Tacoma until her family moved to Chewelah, Washington. Mary attended school for a time and met the love of her life, Alvin Burgess. She was the eldest of nine siblings and enjoyed being a big sister. She remembered everyone’s birthday and would call her siblings, children, grandchildren and friends, without fail, to wish them a happy birthday.

Mary loved people and was kind and encouraging to those she met. She often struck up a conversation with a compliment. She was blessed with the gift of acceptance and kindness and wouldn’t hesitate to offer her home to family or friends in need. She loved having family over for family dinners and celebrations. She was a wonderful example to her children and grandchildren and will be missed immensely.

She is survived by her brothers Butch, Raymond, Vince, Marvin, Benny, and sisters Janyce and Nancy; daughters Cheryl Paterson, Rhonda Ebel and Kim and Gary Demmer; two sons Kevin and Stephanie Burgess and Brian and Olivia Burgess; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mary knew what she wanted, and that was to be with her husband of 62 years in heaven worshiping her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully before her family was ready for her to leave. The gift of unexpected death is the lovely assurance of eternal life and the confidence of being released from a failing body.

We will celebrate her life along with that of her husband, Alvin, at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, at 8033 Road 4.2 NE. Please contact Kevin Burgess for more details at 509-750-8097.
