October 31, 1933 – October 12, 2022

Jewell Jensen Iverson, 88, of Royal City, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, in Moses Lake, Washington from complications of a stroke.

Jewell was born on Oct. 31, 1933, in Mantua, Utah, to Isaac H. and Martha Call Jensen. She grew up as an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a faithful member throughout her life. Growing up, she enjoyed spending time with her 12 siblings, going to church dances and family reunions. She graduated from Box Elder High in 1951. She was a member of the Girls League, which provided her with the opportunity to develop important social and life skills. Her joyful spirit drew others to her and she had a great talent for turning strangers into friends. After high school, Jewell worked as an operator for the telephone company in Brigham City, Utah.

She met her future husband and eternal companion, Ronald Delano Iverson, at the age of 15 and they dated through her last couple of years of high school. They were married on Sept. 17, 1952, in the Logan, Utah temple. Though initially unsure about moving away from her family, Ronald’s career prompted them to move to Washington where land was available for farming. In 1957, Jewell and Ronald purchased a farm on Royal Slope and they had a successful farming career. Jewell lovingly raised seven children and was very supportive of her husband, her church and community. In the church, she held several leadership and teaching callings. She especially enjoyed serving in the Primary and Relief Society. Jewell was very present in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She loved attending any activities they were involved in. She especially enjoyed watching sporting events. She was a staunch supporter of the Royal Knights, Seattle Mariners and numerous other sports teams. Throughout her adult life, she had many hobbies including: knitting, gardening, scrapbooking, sewing Christmas stockings, canning, cross stitching, and ceramics to name a few. She was also an avid collector of Hummel figurines, Beanie Babies and coins.

Jewell was devastated by her husband’s death in 2009 but continued to find joy and love in her family, faith and ability to serve. She stayed busy by volunteering at the Royal City Food Bank, attending the local knitting group and spending time with her family and friends. She welcomed all into her home and would often send visitors away with a Beanie Baby to remember her by. She was a kind, gracious and generous mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived by the motto “Choose to be happy” and embodied that until the end. She will be sorely missed by all.

Jewell was preceded in death by her husband Ronald; parents Isaac and Martha; siblings Leon, Anna, Orlando (Bus), Lavar, Kenneth, Ferrien, Afton, Worth, Verretta and Vernetta and an infant brother. She was also preceded in death by son-in-law Kelly Chisholm and three great-grandbabies.

She is survived by her brother Robert Stanley and Jill Jensen of Brigham City, Utah; her sons Val (Wendy), Kevin (Debbie), Mark (Kim) and Carl (Karra); daughters Christine Chisholm, Marla (Russell) Latimer and Darla (Joseph) Plaisted and 38 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building at 357 Christensen Road, Royal Camp, Othello, Washington.
