1941-2022

Elroy Teterud passed away at Samaritan Hospital on Nov. 28, 2022, with his wife by his side.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1941 to Glen and Laura (Marquardt) Teterud in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Twin Valley, Minnesota, High School in 1959. During his senior year in high school he was chosen, along with his identical twin brother Leroy, for the All-Conference Football Team.

The twins, along with three other classmates, joined the Air Force one week out of high school. Elroy spent three years of his military service time in Germany, which he relished and talked about frequently throughout his life. In May 1966, he married Mary Ellen Good and in August of that year they moved to the Seattle area from Minnesota. Elroy was a cost accountant and worked for several different manufacturing companies in the Seattle/Everett area which included 15 years at Pacific Car and Foundry.

Eager to return to a more rural life style, in 1997 they moved to Moses Lake, Washington with a new job opportunity. Elroy enjoyed hunting and fishing in central Washington. During his retirement in Moses Lake he volunteered as project manger with Habitat for Humanity for 10 years, building several homes during his tenure.

He loved to dance, even as a teenager, starting back when the jitterbug was popular. In the early 1980s, the entire family square danced and continuing into retirement, Elroy and Mary Ellen regularly danced at the 4X8 Square Dance Club in Moses Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Ellen; four children Rebecca (Jeff) Evanson, Patrick (Beth) Teterud, Elizabeth (Tim) Doty and Chris (Robin) Teterud; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, twin brother Leroy (Shirley) Teterud and Les (Diane) Teterud.

Military services will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington and a memorial will be held at the Living Word Lutheran Church on Friday, Dec. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
