Pro sports recap: Seahawks, Kraken continue successful seasons

SEATTLE – Both the Seattle Seahawks and Kraken are currently riding winning streaks as of late, advancing toward the top in their respective conferences. Check out this week’s professional sports update for Washington’s teams.
Seahawks
Winners of four straight, the Seattle Seahawks increased their lead over the NFC West with a 31-21 road win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday to improve to 6-3 on the season.
The Seattle defense impressed again on Sunday, only allowing the Cardinals to score two touchdowns in the win. Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who signed with the Seahawks this off-season, recorded his sixth and seventh sack of the season against Arizona, tied for the seventh-most by a player this season.
The Cardinals struggled to move the ball, a fate shared by many of Seattle’s recent opponents. It’s now back-to-back weeks that the Seahawk defense has held an opponent to under 300 yards of total offense, and opposing teams have not crossed the 350-total yard mark since Week 6.
31 points are just the last mark in a four-game win streak where the Seahawks are averaging 28.5 points per game. Rookie running back Kenneth Walker III once again found the end zone twice on Sunday, scoring from one and five yards out. Walker III also crossed the 100-yard mark for the second time this season, and so far has scored two touchdowns both times he’s rushed for over 100 yards this season.
Quarterback Geno Smith bounced back from a pick-six in the third quarter with a touchdown drive where he completed six-of-seven passes for 54 yards, converting three first downs on the drive. Smith’s nine-yard pass to receiver Tyler Lockett retook the lead for Seattle, which they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.
Up next for the Seahawks is a trip to Germany, where they will face off against the Tamp Bay Buccaneers at Allianz Arena in Munich. Kickoff is at 6:30 a.m.
Kraken
The Kraken added three more wins to their winning streak, setting them at 8-4-2 four weeks into the 2022-2023 season. Over the past week, the Kraken have left victorious on the road against the Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as notching a home win against the Nashville Predators Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period against the Wild, Seattle netted three goals in the second to amass a commanding lead. Center Morgan Geekie, defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and center Alex Wennberg all scored in the second, and Wennberg added another in the third to put the icing on the cake.
On Saturday, the Kraken handed Pittsburgh its seventh-straight loss with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory. Tied at two in the third period, left winger Brandon Tanev scored a go-ahead goal to give the Kraken their fourth-straight win and improve to 7-4-2.
Against Nashville on Tuesday, Seattle right wing Jordan Eberle scored a goal just 38 seconds into the game, beginning a first-period scoring onslaught. Eberle scored again, and defenseman Will Borgen and left wing Andre Burakovsky both netted goals in the first period to take a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Predators scored in the second and Tanev added another goal in the third to give Seattle a 5-1 home win and improve to 8-4-2 through 14 games.
