The exhibit at the Yakima Valley Museum features 14 Central Washington mountaineers who trailblazed the sport between 1949 and 1970.

Many early pioneers of climbing in the Cascades wore what they had available to them, as mountain climbing gear became more advanced after their initial trailblazing.

YAKAMA/EPHRATA – An exhibit in the Yakima Valley Museum called “Let’s Take the Sporting Route: Mountaineering in Central Washington 1949-1970” features pioneers from Central Washington who trail-blazed many first ascents of major mountain climbing routes.
