Dennis Michael Cox

Dennis Michael Cox was born on April 2, 1945 to Woodrow Foy Cox and Georgia Viola Idler in his grandparents' home in Grandview, Washington. He passed away in his home in Othello surrounded by his family on May 25. He had been battling cancer and succumbed to sepsis.

He received his primary education in Grandview. His family moved to Moses Lake his freshman year in high school. The following year, the Coxes moved to Othello where he graduated from Othello High School. In high school he loved and played football, baseball and basketball. He went one year to NNU, Nampa, Idaho.

He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Walker in September 1966 and was later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple 1968. Dennis and Cheryl began their married life in Richland where he worked for U.S. Testing. They farmed for a brief time in Prosser and moved back to Othello in 1974 to farm and raise their family.

Dennis worked for Northrup King, Berger and Co., and retired from Eckenberg Farms in 2016 where he had worked his last 24 years. He enjoyed managing the farm, running a crew to harvest hay, and later traveling to see farmer friends to buy hay.

Dennis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions including counselor to Bishop Larry Kent and counselor to Bishop Ron Walker. He enjoyed working with the youth and has always had a testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ. He coached Little League, all-star and Babe Ruth teams. He also coached and traveled with several AAU basketball teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow Foy Cox and Georgia Viola Idler, sister Sandra Jayne Cox and mother-in-law, Marie Hart Walker. Surviving him are his wife Cheryl of Othello; children Cheray and (Ryan) Law of Pasco, Loren Cox of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jaynae and (Mark) Bunch of Othello, Blair and (Elsa) Cox of Raymore, Missouri and Jorja and (Adam) Leavitt of Franklin, Tennessee; sister Deanna and (Mark) Collins of Sedro Woolley; father-in-law George C. Walker of Othello; 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mueller Greenlee Funeral Home, Pasco, is in charge of arrangements. Services will be held Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1200 E. Rainier St., Othello. Visitation can be made 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 2 and 10-10:45 a.m. the day of the service.
