WENATCHEE — The Rotary Club of Quincy was recognized for its support of Quincy School District students with a Friend of Children Award from the North Central Education Service District.

The award was presented by the NCESD board of directors during its annual awards program on May 12.

Quincy superintendent Nik Bergman nominated the club for organizing clothing drives for the district’s elementary school, including the purchase of more than $1,500 in warm winter clothing. Club members bought outerwear, including coats and gloves, as well as sweatshirts and sweatpants, according to an NCESD press release.

“This level of kindness and care for Quincy students is deeply appreciated,” Bergman said, “and they are certainly deserving of this award.”

The Rotary Club of Quincy was one of three organizations to receive a Friend of Children award for 2022. Others went to the Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth for its support of the Cascade School District during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Okanogan Kiwanis for their promotion of projects for children in Okanogan. Irma Trejo of Orondo and Gladys Lewis of Cashmere received Friend of Children awards for their support of the districts during the pandemic. The Cascade (Leavenworth) School Board was named Board of the Year.
