Two bicyclists were injured Sunday when they were struck by a car on state Route 28 near Rock Island, according to the Washington State Patrol.

David L. Cook, 53, and Jerad D. McGill, 43, both of Tacoma, were riding west on the shoulder of SR-28, at the rear of a group of eight cyclists. At a little after 1 p.m. Linnea V. Fahrnkopf, 38, of Seattle, driving westbound in a 2009 Infiniti G37, left the roadway to the right and struck the two men from behind. Cook and McGill landed in the ditch and the car came to a stop 75 yards west of the scene.

The men were transported to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee for unspecified injuries, as was Fahrnkopf. Both cyclists were wearing helmets; it is unknown whether Fahrnkopf was wearing a seat belt.

Drugs were a factor in the collision, according to the WSP. Fahrnkopf was charged with two counts of vehicular assault.
