MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Christian Academy/Covenant Christian School baseball team is back in action after half a decade.

MLCA/CCS Athletic Director Josh Kast said this is the first baseball season for the school in five years and students, staff and parents are very excited to have baseball return.

The MLCA/CCS Lions took on Pateros High School in a conference doubleheader on March 25 at Larson Play Fields.

The Lions fell 6-5 and 16-15 to Pateros.

Head coach CJ Cheatwood said that this is the first time a majority of his team has ever played baseball, and for those with experience, many of them haven’t played in a very long time.

Some of this could be seen in players’ hesitation to steal bases.

Despite the gap in experience, the Lions put up a good fight against Pateros.

In the first game, the Lions took a lead of 1-0 by the end of the second inning but Pateros snuck in five runs in the third inning. MLCA/CCS responded by adding three runs that same inning. They allowed Pateros another run in the fourth inning but came back in the fifth and final inning of that game, due to time constraints, to add another run to their own tally. Despite their efforts, Pateros was able to get their third out before MLCA/CCS could tie or take the game. The first game ended with the Lions at five runs and Pateros at six.

The Lions also saw a close loss in the second game right after, 15-16.

MLCA/CCS next takes on conference contender Waterville-Mansfield in a doubleheader at Waterville on April 9.
