Othello set to clean up in April
OTHELLO — Othello residents will have the chance to dispose of grass piles and tree limbs — and old appliances and scrap metal, among other junk — during the annual spring cleanup week April 4 through 9, according to an announcement from the city.
This is the 24th year the city has sponsored a spring cleanup, and it goes beyond organic yard debris. Different items will be accepted on different days throughout the week.
Pickup for discarded appliances and scrap metal will be April 4 and 5. The appliances and material must be placed in the alley, or at curbside if the residence doesn’t have an alley, by April 3. Items that will be accepted include motors, car batteries and hot water tanks as well as stoves, refrigerators and freezers.
Yard and vegetation clippings will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 6 and 9. The materials must be transported to a loading dock set aside for receiving at 1016 S. Broadway Ave. Materials accepted include leaves, grass clippings, shrub and tree limbs. Tree limbs must be a maximum of six inches in diameter and four feet long.
Other kinds of yard debris must be taken to the Adams County Transfer Station, 504 Lucy Road, during normal business hours. Only pickup loads and small utility truck loads will be accepted.
Household hazardous waste may also be disposed of at the transfer station. Residents can get information about the items that will be accepted and proper disposal by contacting the transfer station, 509-488-6171.
Othello residents who have a junk vehicle they want towed can contact Oscar’s Towing at 509-488-6370 to make arrangements. There’s free pick-up in the city limits during cleanup week.
