BBCC Women win national wrestling title

ALLEN, Texas — Big Bend Community College women’s wrestling team took first place at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association’s championship tournament.

According to a press release from USA Wrestling, Big Bend took first in the women’s division during the annual championship tournament in Allen, Texas, with 115.5 points, followed by the Spirit of Ottawa University’s Surprise, Ariz. campus with a total of 73.5 points and the Chokers of Grays Harbor College with 72.5 points.

Big Bend champions were Miranda Dibenedetto (109) and Michelle Kamyshin (170), the press release said. However, Grays Harbor had the most individual champions with three: Tatum Pine (130), Grace Miller (136) and Jocelyn Fierro (143).

The Vikings performed well in many of the weight categories in the women’s tournament, which were held March 10-12. The national championship tournament was canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
