WARDEN — A man was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after he was injured in a three-car collision about two miles south of Warden Friday evening.

Oscar Zepeda, 24, was a passenger in a car driven by Jorge Gomez-Acevedo, 30, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol. Gomez-Acevedo was driving south on State Route 17 at about 6:15 p.m. Friday when he ran into the back of a car driven by Tiffany Hymas, 33. Hymas had stopped to make a left turn.

Gomez-Acevedo’s vehicle rotated around into the northbound lane and was hit by a semi driven by James Lewis, 39. Lewis’ truck and Gomez-Acevedo’s car both came to rest in a grassy field about 15 feet off the roadway. Hymas’ car came to rest on the southbound shoulder, according to the WSP memo.

Gomez-Acevedo and a second passenger in his vehicle, Melbin Quezada Carrera, 27, were transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Hymas and Lewis were not injured, the WSP memo said.

Gomez-Acevedo and Quezada Carrera were wearing seatbelts, but Zepeda was not, according to the WSP report.
