March, April state park free days announced
OLYMPIA — Washington residents can park for free in state parks on three days this spring, with the first one being Wednesday.
The Discover Pass won’t be required on March 9, March 19 and April 22. The Discover Pass requirement also will be waived on those dates on lands managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources or Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Normally Washington residents who use state parks are required to buy and display a Discover Pass whenever they visit in order to park
A press release from the Washington Parks and Recreation Commission said the March 9 date replaces the first Saturday in April.
March 9 commemorates the birthday of the late Billy Frank Jr., a former chair of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission and an environmental activist. March 19 commemorates the founding of the Washington parks department, and April 20 is Earth Day. Other free-parking days are scheduled throughout the year.
