The Columbia Basin Girls Softball Association has announced they will move forward with a traditional season for 2022. Registration is open now and will close March 12, according to a press release from CBGSA Board President Tiffany Vehrs.

Player registration is $55. Teams will begin their season March 28 with three weeks of practices, followed by six weeks of games and practices.

Full and partial scholarships are available for players in need, Vehrs wrote. The application can be found at cbgsa.com or by contacting cbgsatreasurer7@gmail.com.

In years past, CBGSA has relied heavily on team sponsors to help cover the cost of running a season, the release stated. The team sponsorship of $240 per team helps keep player registrations as low as possible by covering team T-shirt uniforms and the cost of replacing equipment. Team sponsors will be recognized on the CBGSA Facebook page.

Volunteer coaches, assistant coaches and parent volunteers are also needed for every team. A lack of volunteers led the 2021 season to run as clinics, instead of teams. Community members can register to coach from now until March 12. Background checks and SafeSport training are provided by CBGSA and are required of all volunteers.

“There hasn't been a traditional rec softball season in two years," Vehrs wrote, “but we are optimistic that after these crazy times, getting back on the field is just what our daughters need."

Players can register at www.cbgsa.com. Prospective sponsors can email cbgsapresident@gmail.com.
